MP1 Independent Reading

October28

For the first nine weeks, our class read a fiction book of our choice.  Today you are going to blog about your book.  Your blog post should consist of two paragraphs.  In the first paragraph, introduce your book, the author, and give a three to five sentence summary of your story without revealing the ending.  In the second paragraph, make a connection with what you have read by answering one of the questions below.

  • What does this remind me of in my life?
  • How is this different from my life?
  • What were my feelings when I read this book?
  • How is this similar to another book I’ve read?
  • How is this different from another book I’ve read?
  • What does this remind me of in the real world?
  • How is this different from things that happen in the real world?

Example:

I read The Sisters Grim: The Fairy Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley.  In the beginning of the story, two orphan sisters, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, are sent to Ferryport Landing to live with a grandmother they have never met.  Very quickly they discover Ferryport Landing isn’t a normal town; it is a inhabited by fairy tale characters, also known as Ever-afters.  No sooner have the girls arrived than they are embroiled in a “giant” murder mystery.  But who is the guilty suspect? The Mayor Prince Charming? The Teacher Snow White? Or the Mischievous Puck?  With so many storybook characters colliding, the reader is left guessing until the very end!

The relationship between the two sisters in this novel reminds me of the relationship between my sister and me when were much younger.  Sabrina is a second mother to to Daphne just like my older sister was for me.   I knew I could depend on my sister for just about anything.  She was the one who taught me to read, ride a bicycle, roller-skate, and always made sure I completed my homework after school.  Sabrina looks after her little sister Daphne in the same way.  She protects her from any trouble that may come their way.
